SILUMKO: Valeria, how did you get brave?
VALERIA: What do you mean?
SILUMKO: I mean how did you get that thing inside you that makes you know you can have something else? That your life can be something other than it is now?
VALERIA considers the question.
VALERIA: I just know. I just know who I’m meant to be in this world. I’m on, like, a spiritual journey. (beat) Don’t you dream?
SILUMKO: I used to. I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I knew I didn’t want to be like my father. And now here I am.
VALERIA: Did you ever talk to him about it?
SILUMKO: In my culture we don’t talk about things like that. (beat)
